Here's what I consider a little-known fact: the scriptwriter for SoulCalibur V was Sawako Natori, who's better known for her work on the Drakengard series and Nier Replicant/Gestalt alongside Yoko Taro. You can see her name quite far into the credits, so far in fact that it's very easy to miss:
Sawako Natori in SoulCalibur V credits
It appears after the names of people from multiple regional branches of Bandai Namco as well as some outsourced companies. A strange way to credit the scriptwriter, considering that SoulCalibur V's story mode isn't short as far as fighting games go and was supposed to be even longer. If I correctly interpret what Odashima said in that interview, the script for that extended story mode had been written. What's more, Natori's career in the gaming industry actually started at Namco long before she joined Cavia. You can find her name in the credits of such games as Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, Ace Combat 3, or some Ridge Racer or Tales series entries.
Now to move on to the topic in the title: the main character of the first Drakengard game, Caim, has a sister named Furiae. "Furia" means "fury" in Latin, and "furiae" is its plural form. It could be translated as "furies" or "the Furies." Now, Pyrrha Ω's character profile in New Legends of Project Soul contains a paragraph about "protection of Eumenides." Erinyes, Eumenides or the Furies are all various names for the same group of goddesses of revenge in Greek mythology. Pyrrha is related to Patroklos, the main character of SoulCalibur V's story mode, in the same way as Furiae is to Caim (although Pyrrha is the elder sibling). They also share the exact same height and each has both a white and a dark red outfit. I think of these as intentional references.
Drakengard and SoulCalibur V actually share another staff member, Tatsuya Ishiyama. He's credited as "Motion Design" in the former and "Cutscene Art Leader" in the latter. Ishiyama is also credited as "Cutscene Animator" in SoulCalibur IV.
I think it's also possible to draw some real parallels between the Drakengard's and SoulCalibur V's writing, but let's just leave it at that.
